Thor, God of Thunder, had been swinging his hammer and controlling the weather long before Marvel Comics mastermind Stan Lee transformed him into the beautiful and malevolent image portrayed by actor Chris Hemsworth.
Thor was, according to Norse Mythology, the original God of thunder, lightning and epic storms. By swinging his hammer he could manipulate the weather at any given time, and he also possessed super-human strength and resembled fertility. Thor has made his way into the modern world in a multitude of ways, the most common being that of the day of Thursday, having been named after him (Thor’s Day). He has also inspired many works of modern art.
